Hughes Springs ISD School Nutrition Department strives to provide an enjoyable meal experience for students, employees and visitors, while promoting healthy choices and sound nutrition. Below you will find more information about our cafeteria and our operating standards.
Free and Reduced Price Meals and Snacks are served to students in accordance with Department of Agriculture guidelines.
Applications for Free and Reduced Priced meals may be completed at all campuses or contact the School Nutrition Department Monday thru Friday from 7:35 to 3:00. For help or any questions please come by or call Brenda Simpson, School Nutrition Director at 903-639-3809.
Payment Policy: Payments for meals may be paid ahead as much as the parent/guardian would like. If paying by check please list all students covered on the bottom of the check and it will be split accordingly.

Charge Policy: There are no longer family accounts – to make the charge policy fair to all. Individual accounts are allowed to charge up to $10.00. Once the charge limit of $10 has been reached a vegetable plate and milk will be served until the balance is paid. Students approved for Free meals will not be allowed to charge.
Past due reminders will be sent home with Elementary students every Monday in their “take home packets”. Junior High and High School Students will receive a low balance reminder when they owe $5.00 and every charge after that up to the $10 limit.
All charging will cease May 1st of each year to ensure all accounts are paid in full prior to the end of the school year.
Meal Serving Times and Locations:
Breakfast - Elementary breakfast is served in the cafeteria dining room from 7:35 to 8:00. Junior High and High School breakfasts are served in their own hallways at the completion of 1st period.
Lunch – Elementary lunch begins with Pre-K students at 10:15, Junior High lunch is served at 12:00 and High School is served at 1:00.
Menu’s available weekly which are sent home with Elementary students take home packet, listed in the Bee Newspaper, the district website and distributed at the cafeteria per request.
Hughes Springs ISD Nutrition Department participates in the National School Breakfast and Lunch Programs that are funded through USDA. The school breakfast and lunch is available to every child in the District. After School Snacks are free to students who qualify for that program.
